Why APIC?
We Are A Community

APIC offers community. It brings us together. We connect with folks we wouldn't otherwise find. Much less share a dinner – and a new approach to client care and growth.

We Share

APIC provides opportunities for this sharing, the exploration of new approaches, strategies, best practices. What's on our minds. We ask questions of and share approaches with vallued colleagues: How would YOU deal with a situation like this?

We Come Together

APIC members gather together to interact with colleagues, senior MS leaders, internal and external speakers. We share indeas and we continue to build community, one by one. We sharpen our game and broaden our resources.

WE ARE 100% MEMBER RUN

APIC is a Member-Run organization. We offer webinars, conference calls with guest experts and/or members introducing new ideas, new best practices, tips on making the most of new technologies. If it's interesting to us, we want to share it with you.

We Are Relevant

Who better to learn from then your colleagues on the front line. Our common experience under APIC keeps us on the forefront of the industry, and ahead of the curve as a result of a collaborative environment.

Our Vision

To build an association that is the organization of choice for consultants dedicated to raising their level of professionalism. APICs unique history and culture will drive proactive change, thought leadership, collaboration, and partnership. APIC seeks to be recognized as the industry standard for investment consulting and advisory practices.

APIC members are innovators. We actively create and introduce technique and methods to provide cutting-edge service and expertise to our clients, and to develop our practices.

We have organized ourselves into committees that focus on our special areas of expertise or need, and that provide and excellent forum for members to express opinions to people who will listen to their concerns.

The first and primary benefit of APIC membership is the opportunity to work with and build relationships with people we respect and whose company we enjoy, both personally and professionally. Secondly and most importantly, we believe this collaboration allows APIC members to further enhance their level of consulting and service that we deliver to our clients.

Our Mission

To inspire excellence in investment consulting through collaboration, education and innovation.

  • We believe in excellence.
  • We believe in success.
  • We believe in speaking our minds.
  • We believe in fostering professionalism through a culture of consulting.
  • And we passionately believe in sharing with each other, as a community of colleagues. The notion of sharing with each other our successes and failures, our innovative ideas, competitive knowledge and academic insights-the fact that we teach each other openly, willingly and quite well-is virtually unheard of in our industry. Yet sharing is the foundation of APIC.

"I Feel Our Tradition at APIC"
Westlake Village, CA

I came to MS through EF Hutton & Smith Barney mergers. When I look at the APIC conference and what is going on in the room, I feel the tradition of those firms. I was working in Flossmoor, IL and Larry Kuykendall, our Shearson Regional Consulting Group specialist, said if you want to know how to do consulting work, go meet this group. APIC is about education and collaboration, a sharing of ideas on how to run our practice. Our members encourage each other. I have learned how to put the institutional model to work for retail clients, taking the fiduciary role, and being the best I can be for our clients. Much of what I do in my practice stems from my APIC experiences. I have missed only one APIC conference since 1992.

Frankly, when I think about the members of APIC, the "C" could stand for Cream of the Crop. Whenever I have had the opportunity to attend a conference, or listen to a call, I marvel at all of the top-notch professionals who are willing to share about their practices. The sincerity in wanting to help fellow advisors is truly special. Additionally, I have appreciated the gift of friendship with several individuals due to APIC.

Thank you, APIC, for your collaborative Spirit!

"I didn't know anyone when I started going to APIC. My Consulting Group Director encouraged me to join, said I would get a lot out of it. I have been an MS advisor since the early 1990s and have now been part of APIC for something like 15 years. The people I met opened my eyes to different ways of building a business, a more consultative approach to my work, a discipline. I liked this consultative approach – it sang to me. I liked the people. The courses. The classes. I realized the more involved you get in APIC, the more you get out of it. I like to grow. My first career gave me a passion for education and APIC has inspired a similar emphasis on my professional growth. I am a CIMA now because of APIC and it has become an important part of who I am. I don’t miss a convention!”

“We came in the Legg Mason – Smith Barney merger. APIC was a smaller group in a big place, similar to ours. APIC people did our sort of business; we felt at home. They shared best practices and new ideas. They had a congenial atmosphere and ‘like thinking.” In most offices people are doing their own thing, not always sharing ideas and thoughts. It can get competitive. At APIC the walls fall down. I was blown away. There is this spirit of comradery, of helping each other. That is a welcome thing! APIC leadership also gets changes at the management level. We are candid; we speak up; we are a good test kitchen. Joining APIC is an opportunity to be among the best in the firm, the best in class. Joining APIC was the best decision I ever made.”

APIC itself makes a big place feel smaller and the opportunity to serve on the board enhances friendships all the more. “I think of the APIC Board as a cheerleader for the Financial Advisor community. It promotes awareness, friendships, communication and dialogue between FA’s and with management. It is also good to get outside of my own bubble. There is much to learn from the other FAs — how they manage their practices and promote partnerships.“ I see APIC as a resource for everyone: a voice to management, a seat at the table for FAs and a strong conduit for communication between management and the FA community. The Standard of Care is an initiative I feel strongly about. “Here we have an advisor-run, formal professional organization, a platform for a strong FA voice of MS for collaboration. Awareness and visibility should lead to more membership and our voice will continue to grow stronger. APIC provides us the opportunity for continuous re-evaluation of our own processes and the development of deeper and broader relationships within our extended community.
